Identifying Gaming Activities

Common practices and anti-gaming support

There are certain activities on the platform that can indicate the presence of gaming. The most common one is detecting identical comments multiple times on a particular consultation or survey - this can be a sign of someone using a robot or autonomous computer program to add contributions. Normally, certain comments (free text) should be unique and if a respondent agrees with a comment they can just click the ‘agree’ button rather than write the same comment again. Therefore, multiple comments saying the same thing (or nearly the same thing) without adding much new information can be deemed suspicious and the respondent can be blocked from adding any more comments.

Another sign of gaming is when a respondent adds a very high number of comments. Our systems have automatic thresholds for how many comments a respondent can add per period of time. If this threshold is passed, the respondent is blocked from adding any new comment.

Please note that a respondent may be unblocked from our systems only if the respondent sends us an email appealing to be unblocked, we investigate the gaming activity and the request is approved.

If you’re interested in detecting whether individuals have added an exceptionally high number of comments, please use the Dashboard to review respondents by number of comments submitted. Alternatively, you can contact your Customer Success Manager for assistance or send an email to customers@commonplace.is stating your request.
