About us:

Commonplace connects people with the places they live, work or play to accelerate positive change.  We do this because communities that host inclusive conversations also create trusted collaborations, which improve the quality of life and fabric of their neighbourhood.

We also know that our product delivers extraordinary engagement from communities and insights to our customers. But we’re moving fast - as are the expectations of our communities and customers. So we must evolve rapidly but with nuance; disruptively but with integrity; and most important of all - together with our team members, customers and respondents.

We are seen as a market-leader by our customers, but we have only scratched the surface of what is possible in the UK. This role is about developing new and existing relationships within the built environment mainly focused on, but not limited to; local authorities, developers, architects, planners and public affairs companies.

Current state of play:

Having closed a Series A funding round, we are committed to future growth of 100% year-on-year, seeing revenues rise from £1.5M to £3.2M from July20 to June21.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for someone to help the development and growth of our work within the public sector; driving sales and the subsequent account management.

It will require people with an entrepreneurial spirit, who feel confident to advocate and articulate our purpose, and have good intuition for getting to the heart of problems, finding solutions, understanding what the public sector and local government in particular wants to get out of engagement in the built environment. Ideally you’ll have experience of how councils work.

You’ll have some understanding of the different roles played by frontline officers, senior leaders, elected members and the public. You’ll have an appreciation of the financial and political environment that they operate in.

You may have a commercial background, and be familiar with building a pipeline of prospects and customers; and have a track record of building revenue with existing customers, and of developing and closing new deals.

You equally may have a non-commercial background, but understand how relationship building, problem solving and inclusive conversations have a major impact on achieving positive change in the built environment and beyond.

This will all be built on the foundation of inquisitiveness, intelligence, excellent communication, and a passionate commitment to delivering an outstanding service to customers.

In return you will earn a competitive salary and generous OTE package, as well as the opportunity to become a shareholder in an ambitious, financially secure start-up with a values driven purpose. You’ll get a full induction to how we work, and have opportunities for personal development as you grow into your role and as the business does too.

We’ll expect you to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and behaviours:

Skills

  • Developing relationships and driving the uptake of Commonplace as the market leader in meaningful engagement in the built environment.
  • Account managing existing relationships, and development and finding and delivering on new opportunities.
  • Spotting opportunities for new business , understanding what our customers need, identifying how we can help  and agreeing with them how we will deliver our services for them.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the built environment, and especially the role of local government as its custodian.
  • Experience of using a Customer Relationship Management system, and other digital tools such as Slack and Google Docs.
  • A working knowledge of how professional networking tools e.g. LinkedIn, social media and marketing campaigns can create new business opportunities.

Behaviours

  • A passion for cross-functional collaboration, and a willingness to support those around you.
  • A can-do, self-starter attitude,  who is able to work as part of a high performing team in achieving goals that are central to the company’s success.
  • Energy and an appetite to work at pace.
  • Comfortable with the ambiguity and change inherent in the start-up and small company environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to get up to speed quickly on new products, services, markets and relationships.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Flexible holiday arrangements - we don’t limit how much you take - and 20 days fully paid sick leave.
  • A Macbook Pro to work on, a tailored learning and development plan.
  • Flexible working hours - you are free to work the hours that suit your lifestyle, including working remotely and working-from-home.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
